Seller Central update highlights faster deliveries, safer warehouses and long term benefits for sellers
By ChannelMAX Staff Writer.
Amazon has announced a major milestone in its global logistics network, confirming that more than one million robots are now operating across its fulfillment centers. The update was officially shared with sellers on Seller Central and underlines how automation is reshaping order processing, storage and delivery speed. For Amazon sellers, the move signals continued investment in infrastructure that directly supports faster fulfilment and improved customer experience.
One million robots now active across Amazon’s network
According to the Seller Central announcement, Amazon’s robotics fleet is now working alongside employees in fulfillment centers worldwide. The company says these robots help make daily operations safer and more productive, while also enabling faster and more reliable deliveries to customers. Rather than replacing workers, the robots are designed to support human teams by reducing heavy lifting, cutting walking distances and improving accuracy in picking and stowing inventory.

Key robots powering Amazon’s fulfillment system
Amazon highlighted several advanced robotic systems currently in use or testing phases.
1. Sequoia and inventory speed
Sequoia has significantly improved inventory storage efficiency. Amazon says it can speed up storage operations by up to 75 percent and retrieve hundreds of thousands of customer orders every week. For sellers, this means products can be located and shipped more quickly, especially during high demand periods.
2. Hercules and Titan for heavy inventory
Hercules and Titan are drive units that move inventory pods directly to employees. Titan can lift twice as much weight as earlier systems, making it ideal for handling bulky and heavier items. This is particularly useful for sellers dealing in large home, furniture or equipment categories.
3. Vulcan and touch based picking
Vulcan is Amazon’s first robot with a sense of touch. It can pick and stow items placed in the highest and lowest rows of inventory pods, areas that usually require ladders or bending. This helps reduce strain on workers and improves storage density.
4. Blue Jay and same day delivery
Blue Jay is a ceiling mounted system currently being tested at Same Day Delivery sites. It can manage multiple fulfillment processes that earlier required separate systems. If expanded, it could further shorten delivery timelines for eligible products.
5. Proteus and full autonomy
Proteus is Amazon’s first fully autonomous mobile robot. Unlike earlier robots, it can move freely through fulfillment centers using sensors and without being restricted to specific zones. This flexibility allows smoother coordination between robots and human workers.
Sustainability and packaging improvements
Alongside robotics, Amazon also shared an update on packaging. Over 120 packaging machines across the United States have been retrofitted to produce made to fit paper bags instead of plastic. This change is expected to help Amazon avoid more than 130 million plastic bags in a single year, supporting its sustainability goals.
For sellers using Fulfilment by Amazon, the expansion of robotics has several practical benefits.
i) Orders can be processed faster, especially during peak sales events.
ii) Inventory handling becomes more accurate, reducing delays and errors.
iii) Same day and next day delivery options may expand in more regions.
iv) Improved efficiency helps Amazon scale operations without congestion during high volume periods.
Sellers offering fast moving, bulky or high volume products are likely to see the most impact as Amazon continues to optimize warehouse workflows.
The Seller Central update on one million robots marks another step in Amazon’s long term strategy to strengthen its fulfillment network. By combining advanced robotics with human workers and more sustainable packaging, Amazon aims to deliver orders faster while improving safety and efficiency. For sellers, the announcement reinforces confidence that Amazon is continuing to invest heavily in infrastructure that supports growth, reliability and better customer outcomes across its marketplaces.
